| GPSY 6440 - Child and Adolescent Global Mental Health |

This course is an innovative New School class that blends psychology and design in the context of working in real life contexts of global child and adolescent mental health. This class utilizes a project-based learning perspective where students will be matched with NGOs from Africa, South America and American contexts who are working to enhance the mental health of children, adolescents and families. The NGO/student teams will work together to build ‘deliverables’ that will enhance the work of those dedicated to providing responses to global trauma and enhancing resilience. The projects will range from working with populations of refugees and displaced children and adolescents, victims of war and climate related disasters and the resulting negative impacts on mental health.
Parsons students are especially invited to join our psychology students & global partners to develop, prototype, and test evidence-based solutions to deliver mental health services to children and adolescents in extreme contexts. Classes will cover main theories and research of psychology, design & user-based (UX) thinking, and a prototyping workshop. A special feature of the class is an orientation and access to the Parsons Making Center to help bring these projects to life.
